What Is the Urban Worm Bag?
The Urban Worm Bag is a small-scale continuous flow worm composting bin designed to turn your kitchen and office waste into an incredibly effective organic fertilizer and soil amendment called worm castings (vermicompost).
You simply feed from the top and harvest your worm castings from the bottom in a few short months.
What is Continuous Flow?
Composting worms tend to stay in the top 15-20cm of their habitat.
So as you add layers of fresh household waste like food scraps, the worms will move higher, leaving their castings below.
So after 4-6 months, you can harvest worm-free castings without disturbing the ecosystem of worms and microbes that are hard at work at the top of the Urban Worm Bag.
The Urban Worm Bag is Breathable
Vermicompost is its own living ecosystem, potentially full of beneficial bacteria, fungi, hormones, all standing ready to breathe life into your soil.
Your composter needs to breathe too.
The Urban Worm Bag’s fabric construction helps you maintain aerobic conditions throughout the entirety of your vermicomposting process.
The Urban Worm Bag is Simple
The Urban Worm Bag uses the highly-efficient, but incredibly simple continuous flow concept found in the world’s top vermicomposting operations.
Unless your vermicompost contains fibrous or woody material, your finished product could be ready to use as-is.
Is Worm Composting Easy?
Yes! If you keep the temperature between 12-35°C, keep moisture to a level where the Urban Worm Bag is not producing leachate, and keep good levels of carbon-rich bedding like paper waste, you are likely to have a thriving worm bin.
Lots of people overthink it. But your bin will benefit by being fed and otherwise left alone!
